A Visit to the ER

Carter came down with a normal, ordinary cold on Wednesday. When he woke up on Thursday morning his cold was worse but nothing to be too concerned about. Around 6:30 Thursday evening, I noticed that he was laboring to breath a little bit and sounded a little wheezy. So, being the overly cautious mother that I am, I called the advice nurse who listened to Carter breath over the phone and to my surprise(read: shock and panic) instructed me to take him straight to the ER. So, off to the ER I went with Carter while Will stayed at home with Jacob.

When we arrived, they too thought that he didn't sound great and so began a lovely evening in the emergency room. Can I just say that over the last couple of years, I have spent entirely too much time in hospitals?? After the doctor saw Carter, a nurse came in carrying all the supplies to insert a "straw"(IV) into his arm. To which, I very quickly objected. If you have ever seen your child have an IV put in you will understand why. Unless it is absolutely necessary, I was not going to allow it. The doc agreed that there was no reason for it so things went pretty smoothly after that. If there is one thing I have learned from all my time in the hospital is that you have to speak up for yourself/child. He received a couple of breathing treatments, a chest x-ray and some steroid medication. Around 9:30 we were allowed to go home - thank god!

Basically he has croup and is on some medication at home and seems to be doing much better. Thankfully it was a pretty painless visit although it did take its toll on me. Carter on the other hand seemed to enjoy his time at the hospital. I think he better become a doctor!

Tulip Festival

I took the boys to the Woodburn Tulip Festival today. The festival is ending this weekend and since it was so nice out, we just had to go. We wish Will could have come but we had a great time. The boys loved all of the flowers, especially the orange (it's their favorite color) ones. It was a great way to spend the morning and I got some great pictures of the boys. Now, let's hope I wore them out enough for a good nap!
